How It Works

• Book Your Appointment:
  • Schedule an appointment at the appropriate Embassy, Consulate General, or Honorary Consul’s office.
• Prepare Your Documents:
  • Use our detailed checklist to gather all required documents.
• Attend Your Appointment:
  • Present yourself in person for identification, biometric data capture, and document verification.
• Processing & Delivery:
  • Your application is processed by the relevant authorities. Once approved, your new passport or ID card is sent to you by courier.
• Ongoing Support:
  • We provide continuous support and updates throughout the process.

Documents Required

For Adults

• Old Icelandic passport
• If the old passport is lost or stolen, bring a valid Icelandic photo ID
• Application fee, payable by debit card

For Children Under 18

• Old passport
• Both parents’ passports
• Signed parental consent form
  • Both parents should be present at the appointment.
  • If one parent cannot attend, the form must be signed beforehand and witnessed by two individuals.
  • Non-Icelandic witnesses must provide copies of their ID.
• Birth certificate (for first-time passport applications)

First Passport for Icelandic Citizens Born Abroad

• Child must be registered with Registers Iceland as an Icelandic citizen before applying.
• If an Icelandic citizen is born abroad and has never lived in Iceland, they may lose Icelandic citizenship at age 22 unless they apply to retain it.

Emergency Passport

• Emergency passports may be issued only in genuine emergencies.
• Same requirements as a standard passport application.
• Emergency passports are not biometric and may not be accepted in all countries—check with the relevant embassy before applying.

Lost & Stolen Passports

• Report lost or stolen passports to the police and Registers Iceland immediately.
• Once a passport is reported lost, it cannot be used, even if found later.

Important Information

Application Fee

• Fees must be paid at the Embassy in London by debit card.

Processing Time

• Passports are processed by Registers Iceland within 6 working days before being sent by general mail.

Collection & Delivery

• Passports can be mailed directly to applicants if their previous passport is invalidated.
• Alternatively, collection is available:
  • At the Embassy during opening hours.
  • At a Consul’s office (by prior appointment).
