Business Visa – Iceland

Overview

The Iceland Business Visa allows non-EU nationals residing in the UK to travel to Iceland for short-term business-related activities, such as attending meetings, negotiations, training sessions, or conferences. This visa is intended solely for professional visits and does not permit employment in the local Icelandic labour market.

Who can apply?

You may apply for a Business Visa if you are:

  • A non-EU/EEA citizen legally residing in the UK.
  • Intending to visit Iceland for short-term business purposes.
  • Able to provide an invitation from a company or organisation in Iceland confirming the nature of the business activity.

Eligibility

  • Valid passport issued within the last 10 years with at least two blank pages.
  • Legal residency in the UK (valid UK immigration status).
  • Confirmed business invitation from an Iceland-based company or organisation.
  • Proof of purpose, sufficient funds, and return travel.

Processing Time

  • You may apply up to 6 months before your planned travel date.
  • Standard processing time is 15 calendar days, but may be longer for certain nationalities or during peak periods.
  • Applications submitted in Edinburgh may require 2 additional working days for dispatch to the London processing centre.

Documents Required

Application Form

  • Completed Schengen visa application form.
  • Confirmation of online registration at visa.government.is (print email confirmation).

Photograph

  • One recent passport-size photo (3.5 x 4.5 cm, white background, max 6 months old).

Passport

  • Valid for at least 3 months beyond your planned return.
  • Issued within the last 10 years.
  • Include copies of previous passports with valid or expired visas, if applicable.

Travel Medical Insurance

  • Must cover the Schengen Area.
  • Minimum coverage of €30,000, including medical emergencies and repatriation.
  • Must cover the full travel period (arrival to departure).

Flight Booking

  • Roundtrip flight reservation with valid booking reference.
  • If travelling within multiple Schengen countries, provide intra-Schengen itinerary or transport proof.

Proof of Accommodation

  • Confirmed hotel booking, rental agreement, or campus residence reservation.
  • If staying with family or friends, a formal invitation letter from the host in Iceland along with the hosts ID document & Proof of address.

Business Invitation Letter

  • Official signed invitation from an Icelandic company or organisation.
  • Must state purpose, duration of visit, and details of the business relationship.
  • For conferences or events, include paid registration confirmation.

Employment/Professional Status (not older than 30 days)

Provide evidence based on your current status:

Employed

  • Recent official letter from employer (signed, dated, on company letterhead with contact details and company registration number).
  • Last three payslips.

Self-Employed

  • Letter from accountant, bank, or solicitor confirming self-employment, income, and company details.
  • Self-assessment form from HMRC.

Student

  • Recent signed letter from your UK institution with enrolment details and attendance record.

Sponsored

  • Sponsor’s letter and proof of relationship.
  • Sponsor’s bank statements and copy of photo ID.

Retired

  • Last three months’ pension statements or proof of passive income.

Unemployed

  • Proof of sufficient personal funds or sponsorship.

Proof of Finance

  • Original UK bank statement for the last 3 months, clearly showing applicant’s name and sufficient balance:
    • 8,000 ISK/day if staying in a hotel
    • 4,000 ISK/day if expenses are covered by a third party
  • Credit card statements indicating spending limits may also be provided.

UK Residency

  • Provide a UK eVisa printout from UKVI with a valid share code.

Minors (if applicable)

  • Birth certificate
  • Consent letter from both parents/legal guardians (notarised if one is absent)
  • Copies of both parents’ passports or valid photo IDs

Important Notes:

  • Ensure all documents are complete and accurate to avoid processing delays.
  • The Embassy may request additional documents or call for an interview.
  • Peak season processing times may be longer, so early application is advised.

Photo Specifications

Applicants must submit one recent colour photograph (not older than 6 months) that meets the following requirements:

  • Background: Taken against a plain, light-coloured background (white or off-white) to ensure facial features are clearly distinguishable and contrast against the background.
  • Clarity & Focus: The photo must be of high quality, clear, and in sharp focus.
  • Full Face Visible:
    • The applicant must have a neutral expression (non-smiling).
    • No sunglasses, hats, caps, or head coverings, unless worn for religious or cultural reasons.
  • Printing Requirements:
    • Printed on standard photographic paper (camera print).
    • Must be glued to the visa application form (not stapled).
  • Compliance Check:
    • If the submitted photograph does not meet the above requirements, the application will be considered incomplete.
    • The applicant may be required to take new photographs at a photo booth in the visa application centre.
