Overview

The Iceland Au Pair Visa is a residence permit for non-EEA/EFTA nationals between the ages of 18 and 25 who wish to work as an au pair in Iceland. The program allows individuals to live with a host family, assisting with childcare and light household duties in exchange for pocket money, accommodation, and meals.

This permit is temporary and is not intended for individuals planning to settle in Iceland.

Eligibility

To qualify for an Au Pair Visa, applicants must:

  • Be between 18 and 25 years old at the time of application.
  • Have a valid agreement with a host family in Iceland.
  • Not have any familial connection to the host family.
  • Not intend to settle permanently in Iceland.

Host Family Requirements:

  • Must consist of a married couple, cohabiting partners with children, or a single parent with children.
  • At least one adult in the family must hold Icelandic citizenship or a permanent residence permit.
  • The host family cannot be related to the au pair.
  • The family must provide the au pair with:

    • Meals and accommodation free of charge
    • minimum allowance of ISK 15,000 per week
    • Proof of sufficient financial support for the au pair

  • The processing fee is ISK 16,000, which must be paid in advance.
  • Applicants requiring a visa to enter Iceland must not be in Iceland at the time of application.
